Makeup Essentials for All Skin Types and Issues! Part 3: Mature Skin!

What Has Happened My Skin?

With age, the skin will lose firmness and elasticity, and may feel looser and thinner, this is nothing to worry about though as there are so many makeup products out there that work perfectly on these issues and will have your skin looking great again! The change in texture of the skin may cause the appearance of fine lines, and less definition of the contours of the face. Your skin may become dry as the sebaceous glands (oil glands) become less active. As the skin may become thinner, it can start to  look almost transparent in some areas such as, around the eyes small capillaries can show through the skin. Waste products are removed less quickly than in young skin, and this leads to puffiness of the skin particularly around the eyes. Patches of irregular pigmentation may appear on the surface of the skin such as lentigo ( dark patches) and chloasma (hyper pigmentation). If you are experiencing any or all of these issues then I have the solutions for you!!

Ageing isn't a walk in the park and when it comes to makeup it changes everything you thought you knew about your face! It doesn't last as long, it creases everywhere, makes fine lines look ten times worse and it seems to just slide off your face if you get even a small bit warm! Don't worry though makeup companies know this and have formulated products that really help and make life a lot easier!

CORRECTION CREAMS
If you're dealing with increased redness, dark spots or dark under eye circles you can be sure there is a correction cream for you! These are applied before your primer and foundation and just balance all the colours on your face so you look even, even before you apply foundation! If you are having trouble with redness or dark spots I would recommend Max Factors Colour Correction Stick's. The green one is for redness and the purple one for dark spots or under eye circles! Max Factor is available in boots and online, this product is €13.45.

PRIMER
Primer is what you're going to need to keep that makeup set on your face all day! The Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is the one you're gonna want! The antioxidants grapeseed and green tea help minimize fine lines, while the velvety finish ensures that makeup glides on evenly and lasts all day.

FOUNDATION
When looking for a foundation you want to avoid anything thick as it's just going to set into any fine lines and make them appear much worse than they are! A light foundation is the way to go as you won't look caked and and your skin will appear fresh and radiant! The perfect foundation for this would have to be the new Bourjois City Radiance foundation, there is a lot of hype about this foundation at the moment and for good reason, it has light reflecting pigments which evens out the complexion and has a natural appearance. I would also recommend using a lighter foundation on areas where you have more fines lines as it will blur their appearance but again only go in with a light layer!

CONCEALER
When it comes to concealer on mature skin I would tell you to completely avoid it if you can! Concealer's are formulated to cover a multitude so are normally fairly thick which then makes thena  nightmare when it comes to fine lines as they just love to set in there and make a mess! If you are adamant you want to use one though I would go with the Vichy Dermablend Corrector Stick as Vichy is formulated to be used on more mature skin and will not crease as bad as most other concealers.

POWDER
Once again as your skin becomes older it becomes drier so again I would tell you to avoid a powder unless your skin is oily and sheds makeup quickly throughout the day! Powders are pretty much universal in their quality so the only thing I will recommend is to get a translucent one and just apply it to your T-Zone (forehead, nose, upper lip and chin) as that is the only part of your face makeup should tend to move! You can also apply this a few times throughout the day to keep your makeup in place and keep any oil at bay!
